Powerpop Now!! is pop, punk, and (every now and then) ska all rolled up into 3 minutes of furious verse/chorus/verse. Most of the songs are a historical tribute to past collaborative efforts.  Powerpop Now hit #3 on the mp3.com indie chart in January of 2000 with Progress.

All Powerpop Now!! instruments, arrangements and vocals were performed by thedoo.

Reviews

Powerpop Now!! - Progress.....TTT As in most bands, the vocalist in Powerpop Now!! is the main point of focus, and he sounds peculiarly like a hilarious cross-breed of ancient crooners, Tony Christie and Gene Pitney. The song isn't up to much, sounding like some kind of weird 60's mod gubbins after being introduced to computerised loops, but the singer steals the band an extra 'T'. God knows what this lot would be like live.... Ian at surftotwang.

[thedoo] is Powerpop Now. "Whatch'ya gonna do? is a collection of Alternative-Pop-Rock songs with some attitude. This is not a CD filled with sugar coated pop gems mind you. This is music with some guts and it's a little rough around the edges. Not for the faint of heart to say the least. Scott is able to speak his mind and get across his message with some straight ahead rockin' songs. Elements of alternative, rock and a tad of punk angst for good measure is all part of the mix. Scott's voice is slightly unpolished but it seems to fit very well for the type of music he plays. All the compositions are by [thedoo] and he plays all the instruments as well. Originality is alive and well in cyberspace. Keith Hannaleck at musikman.

Can't Have Fun Lyrics lyrics by Mike Zorn

Every time I see you it’s a stab in the back
A cigarette burn, a heart attack
I sit all alone, I sit and write out songs
They’re probably right and they’re probably wrong

But I can’t have fun, since you’re gone
No I can’t have fun, since you’re gone
You look at me and I turn away
I can’t let you see the tears on my face

The feeling I felt so selfish inside
It won’t let me go and it won’t let me cry
Nothin’ against you, society’s wrong
It’s not how much you’ve loved, it’s how far that you’ve gone

But I can’t have fun, since you’re gone
No I can’t have fun, since you’re gone
You look at me and I turn away
I can’t let you see the tears on my face

American Dream lyrics by Bill MacDonald

Looking for things that no one can see
Tryin’ so hard, it’s a mockery
You live your life from a magazine
Just being your American Dream
You live your day and just one more
But you still can not open the door
Livin’ just the way you’ve seen
Just being your American Dream

American Dream, the American Dream
Sleeping Eyes see only dreams
American Dream, the American Dream
America! Wake up from your dream

You live your life the way you dream
‘Cause you’ve seen it in a magazine
And they’ve lived it on your TV screen
Just being your American Dream
Runnin’ along, but knowing no one
Seems you’re only out to have some fun
That’s the way it’s supposed to be
Just being your American Dream and dream and dream...

American Dream, the American Dream
Sleeping Eyes see only dreams
American Dream, the American Dream
America! Wake up from your dream

What you’ve got, no one could need
Seen it all in magazines
Consuming it all, that’s your life
Just being your American Dream
Lookin’ for things that no one can see
Try to find the answers that no one can heed
Staring right at your TV screen
Just livin’ you American Dream and dream and dream...

American Dream, the American Dream
Sleeping Eyes see only dreams
American Dream, the American Dream
America! Wake up from your dream

Life is not a surf song lyrics

Worrying about your tan all day
Skin’s real dark, but you’ve nothing to say
Wear the latest in French bikini’s
Got a great bod, but you’ve nothing to say
You live for Corona Del Mar my friend
You know all the guys but you’ve nothing to say
Come the time for judgment day
Pray to God you’ve got something to say

Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all sand and sun
Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all having fun

See those people they got no jobs
Neither do you but what do you care
Drive around in daddy’s car
Spend his money without a care
He works real hard for you my dear
He loves you no matter what you do
Come the time for judgment day
Pray to God, you’ve got something to say

Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all sand and sun
Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all having fun

Where the hell is Libya
Why should you care anyway
All they do is kill and maim
Is it an injustice, well you’ve nothing to say
Never concerned about right or wrong
What they do is not to you
Come the time for judgment day
Pray to God you’ve got something to say

Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all sand and sun
Life is not a surf song baby
Life is not all having fun

Progress lyrics by Bill MacDonald

Governments go along
Right and left committing wrong
Wrong that’s only heard about some 20 odd years later
When some new regime, point’s it up
We got to show everybody, how far we’ve come

We’ve come so far my friends
See how much we have grown
You live your life so much better now than a 100 years ago
Progress

Some great grandfather millionaire
Made his money at the cost of our air
But the same atmosphere is here and it’ll be here a 100 years later
When some new regime, points it up
We got to show everybody, how far we’ve come

We’ve come so far my friends
See how much we have grown
You live your life so much better now than a 100 years ago
Progress

The new house was finished today
In the lot where we used to play
But there’s more kids there and there’ll be kids coming ‘round a little later
How come no one talks, about the starving kids
We got to show everybody, just what we did

We’ve come so far my friends
See how much we have grown
You live your life so much better now than a 100 years ago

Whatch'ya gonna do? lyrics

We got a one more mile on a road to nowhere
17 seconds ‘til we’ve got no cares
A few more moments ‘til the flash and then
It’ll be over so they’ll start again

Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide
Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide

That little girl with the tear in her eye
She’ll never again weep or cry
All because of the bastard’s roar
Won’t no one come ‘round here no more

Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide
Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide

Glistening darts from across the sea
Mean eternal peace for you and me
It’s not to say who’s right or wrong
It’s just too bad what they’ve done

Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide
Whatch’ya gonna do about it
Are you gonna run and hide

Corporation Band lyrics by Mike Zorn

We got a panel of doctor’s of psychology
Who know what appeals to you and me
‘Cause I’m in a band to make money
It’s a corporation band

Corporation Band, not the idea of just one man
Born of the laws of supply and demand
It’s a corporation band

You cruise your Chevy down to the record store
The radio plays the song you save your money for
You hop right out of the car and skip through the door
To buy us the corporation band

Corporation Band, not the idea of just one man
Born of the laws of supply and demand
It’s a corporation band

We got a synthesizer and a drum machine
We’re prettier than any of the girls you’ve seen
We’re on MTV we wear leather jeans
We’re the corporation band

Corporation Band, not the idea of just one man
Born of the laws of supply and demand
It’s a corporation band

Perry Noid lyrics by Bill MacDonald

He gets acute reactions
He gets anxiety feelings
He’s worried in his actions
He’s worried in his dealings
Lives life so timidly
As though he’s worried that he has the right
He lives his nightmares vividly
Every action committed from fright

He’s a man
His name is Perry
He’s a man
He’s Mr. Noid
He finds life
So very scary
He’s Perry
Perry Noid

At night he lays in bed
He doesn’t know what to do
He hurts, wants to be dead
He kicks and shakes the whole night through
On this earth we run and hire
Never showing what’s inside
Fearing life and fearing the void
We’re all Perry Noid

He’s a man
His name is Perry
He’s a man
He’s Mr. Noid
He finds life
So very scary
He’s Perry
Perry Noid

He gets acute reactions
He gets anxiety feelings
He’s worried in his actions
He’s worried in his dealings
On this earth we run and hide
Never showing what’s inside
Fearing life and fearing the void
We’re all Perry Noid

He’s a man
His name is Perry
He’s a man
He’s Mr. Noid
He finds life
So very scary
He’s Perry
Perry Noid
